Upon completing her college studies, Mónika Herczeg was appointed to the police force in 1996 and later to the professional staff of the border guard, where she held numerous leadership positions. Since 2010, she has been working at the European Law Enforcement Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Interior. Her main responsibilities include coordinating the EU and international activities of independent law enforcement agencies under the Ministry of Interior, ensuring the participation of Hungary in expert working groups and committees of the EU institutions dealing with law enforcement issues, and effectively representing the Hungarian position on police cooperation and border security matters. As deputy commissioner, she is a member of the Steering Committee of EU Strategy for the Danube Region, Priority Area 11. She served as the professional manager of the project called DARIF (Danube River Forum) aimed at establishing the structure of the Danube River Forum implemented between 2013 and 2015. She is the national delegate of the Strategic Committee on Immigration, Borders, and Asylum (SCIFA), which brings together high-ranking officials dealing with various issues related to immigration, asylum, and borders within the European Union. In this capacity, she will perform the duties of the Committee Chair during the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2024. She is currently a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Law Enforcement at the Ludovika University of Public Service. She has published numerous scientific articles on border management and illegal migration.
