After graduating from Peking 55 High School, he attended the Chinese program at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), where he obtained his degree in 2001. He earned his PhD at ELTE in 2006 with a dissertation on Chinese legal history and then habilitated in 2012. He began his teaching career in 1997 at the College of Foreign Trade and has been continuously teaching at the Department of Chinese Studies at ELTE since 1998. Since 2013, he has been a full-time associate professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pázmány Péter Catholic University (PPCU), heading the Department of Chinese Studies and the Research Group for Modern East Asia since 2014. He was the director of the Institute of International Studies and Political Sciences from 2018 to 2021. Since 2014, he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of Oriental Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), serving as its secretary since 2017, vice chairman since 2020, and chairman since 2023. He has worked at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs (HIIA) since 2020. His areas of expertise include contemporary Chinese domestic and foreign policy, as well as the international relations of East Asia.
