Dr. Paul Meerts is an International Negotiation Analyst and a Political Scientist. He has an MA- (1973) and PhD- (2014) from the University of Leiden and he has received Doctor Honoris Causa of the National University of Mongolia. Paul Meerts has the Order of Merit of Austria and Romania. As co-founder of Clingendael Institute, he has been Director of the Department of Training and Education (1983-1989), Deputy General-Director of the Institute (2000-2006) and Advisor to its Director (2006-2011). Before Clingendael worked as an academic at the universities of Groningen (1974) and Leiden (1974-1978) and at the Netherlands Society of International Affairs (NGIZ) in The Hague (1978-1982). As a member of the Steering Committee of the Processes of International Negotiation (PIN) Program (1999-), he published on diplomatic bargaining and training in national and international peer-reviewed books and journals. He is the founder of the PIN Program on International Negotiation Training (POINT).
