Dr. José Luis Bazán is the Secretary of the Commission of Catholic Episcopal Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), which is the official representation of the Catholic Church in the European Union, following its directives and legislation. He is also the legal adviser to the Commission in the areas of migration and asylum and international religious freedom. He holds a degree in Law (1989) and a PhD in International Law (1995) from the University of Navarre, (Spain) with the thesis “The protection of private and family life in the European Court of Human Rights”. For 25 years he has lectured in different universities, among them, the University Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid), the Institut Catholique de Paris and the International University of La Rioja. He is also author of several works, especially in the field of the European and International Protection of Human Rights. He speaks Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.
