Dr. Orsolya Ferencz has worked at the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences at the Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) since 1996, and has served as a senior research fellow since 2006. She is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, a public body. Her research focuses include the study of the magnetosphere, the electromagnetic environment of celestial bodies, and space weather. Since 2018, she has served as the Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In this role, she provides scientific oversight in developing necessary regulations and preparing international and domestic space research agreements. She is responsible for coordinating and implementing the scientific aspects of strategies and policies to advance space research. She also advises the government on positions to be represented in domestic and international space organisations and forums, and represents those positions scientifically. Dr. Ferencz heads the Hungarian delegation to the European Space Agency (ESA).
