Dr. Miklós Maróth, Hungarian Corvin Chain laureate, Széchenyi Prize-winning Hungarian classical philologist, orientalist, professor, director of the Avicenna Institute for Middle East Studies, full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, vice-president from 2008 to 2014. His research interests include the intersection of ancient Greek and Oriental culture, including philosophy. He is credited with the publication of several Syriac manuscripts from the Turfan Collection in Berlin and with the clarification of many controversial issues in the historical geography of Central Asia. Among his numerous awards, he was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary in 1998, the Academic Merit Medal in 2014, the Prima Primissima and Széchenyi Prizes in 2016, and the Corvin Chain in 2018.
