Gergely Boros is Head of the Zooplankton and Interaction Ecology Research Group and Senior Research Fellow at the Balaton Limnological Research Institute. The group focuses on investigating and monitoring the composition, abundance, spatial heterogeneity, and seasonal dynamics of zooplankton communities in Lake Balaton.

The research group operates a mesocosm system located on the institute’s premises, consisting of 12 outdoor tanks designed for studying natural processes under controlled conditions. This system enables researchers to model ecological phenomena such as the impacts of climate change on aquatic communities and the environmental drivers of algal blooms.

His research interests include nutrient cycling in aquatic ecosystems, the role of fish in carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles, ecological stoichiometry, trophic interactions, biomanipulation of shallow lakes, the ecological effects of introduced filter-feeding fish species, and mesocosm experiments.
